Calcium Stearate
Calcium stearate is a white, waxy powder with a slight fatty odor. It is insoluble in water but soluble in hot alcohol and organic solvents like benzene and toluene. With a melting point around 180°C, it is a stable compound at room temperature. Chemically, calcium stearate is a calcium salt of stearic acid, consisting of a long-chain fatty acid (stearic acid) and a calcium ion. It is known for its hydrophobic properties and excellent lubricity. This compound does not readily react with water or other common solvents, making it useful as a waterproofing agent. Additionally, it exhibits good thermal stability and resistance to oxidation. Calcium stearate is widely used in various industries, including plastics and rubber as a lubricant and release agent, in pharmaceuticals as a tablet mold release agent, and in cosmetics and personal care products as an emulsifier and thickener.
