Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), chemical formula (C10H8O4)n, is produced by dimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol
transesterification or esterification of terephthalate and ethylene glycol, and then polycondensation reaction. It is a crystal type
saturated polyester, a milky white or light yellow, highly crystalline polymer with smooth and glossy surface. It is a common
resin in daily life, which can be divided into APET, RPET and PETG.

physicochemical property
PET is a milky or yellowish, highly crystalline polymer with a smooth, shiny surface. It has excellent physical and mechanical
properties in a wide temperature range, the operating temperature can reach 120ºC, and excellent electrical insulation. Even at
high temperature and high frequency, its electrical properties are still good, but it has poor corona resistance, creep resistance,
fatigue resistance, friction resistance and dimensional stability. PET has ester bond, will be decomposed under the action of strong
acid, strong alkali and water vapor, organic solvent resistance, good weather resistance. Disadvantages are slow crystallization
rate, molding processing difficulties, high molding temperature, long production cycle, poor impact performance. Generally through
strengthening, filling, blending and other methods to improve the processing and physical properties, with glass fiber reinforcement
effect is obvious, improve the resin rigidity, heat resistance, drug resistance, electrical performance and weather resistance.
However, it is still necessary to improve the shortcoming of slow crystallization speed, which can be adopted by adding nucleating
agent and crystallization promoter. Flame retardancy and self - flameout of PET can be improved by adding flame retardants
and flame retardants.
