Strontium Carbonate
Strontium carbonate is a white, odorless, tasteless powder with a molecular weight of 147.63 g/mol. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic
system and is typically found in a crystalline form. This compound has a relatively high melting point, around 1494°C (2721°F), and
is insoluble in water but soluble in dilute acids with the release of carbon dioxide. Strontium carbonate has a density of 3.7 g/cm³.
Due to its low solubility in water, it does not readily dissolve, making it useful in applications where slow release of strontium ions is
required. It exhibits good stability under normal conditions but can decompose to strontium oxide and carbon dioxide upon heating
to high temperatures. Its refractive index is about 1.518, making it transparent in nature. Strontium carbonate is utilized in various
industries, including ceramics, pyrotechnics, and as a precursor to other strontium compounds.
