Physical and chemical properties:
White rhombohedral crystal or powder, easily soluble in solvents such as water, ethanol, etc. The aqueous solution is neutral and reacts with iron salts to form blood red iron thiocyanate. Pre cobalt salts react to form dark blue cobalt thiocyanate, which reacts with silver or copper salts to form white silver thiocyanate or black copper thiocyanate precipitates. It is easily deliquescent in air.

Purpose:
1. In the chemical industry, sodium thiocyanate is used for rubber processing, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, color film, and the manufacture of synthetic mustard oil;
2. In the textile industry, it is used as a solvent and formulation of coagulation solution in acrylic fiber production, fabric dyeing, and can be used as a reducing dye.
3. Used as an additive in the electroplating industry. Sodium thiocyanate is mainly used as an additive in solutions for cyanide copper plating, cyanide silver plating, and nickel plating on copper and copper tin alloy substrates. It can also be used as the main component in electrolytes for black nickel plating and silver plating.
4. In organic synthesis, it is used to convert halogenated hydrocarbons into corresponding thiocyanates.
5. Used as analytical reagents (masking agent, precipitant, chromogenic agent), such as for the determination of niobium in steel and for the determination of silver, copper, iron, etc., to manufacture organic thiocyanates.
6. Used as a mold inhibitor and preservative.
