D-mannitol 

Colorless to white needle or trapezus columnar crystals or crystalline powder. Omelless, cool and sweet. The sweetness is about 57%~72% of sucrose.8.37j calories per g, about half of glucose. Small amounts of sorbitol. Relative density of 1.49. Optical rate [α] d20-0.40 (10% aqueous solution). The moisture absorption is very small. The aqueous solution is stable. Stable to the dilute acid and dilute alkali. Not being oxidized by oxygen in the air. Dissolve in water (5.6g / 100ml, 20ºC) and glycerol (5.5g / 100ml). Slightly dissolved in ethanol (1.2g / 100ml). Solute in hot ethanol. Almost insoluble in most other commonly used organic solvents. The ph values of the 20% aqueous solution ranged from 5.5 to 6.5.
