Triethylamine hydrochloride is an organic compound. It is a colourless to pale yellow solid with an irritating odour. Triethylamine hydrochloride is soluble in water, soluble in alcohols and ether solvents, but insoluble in non-polar solvents. It is a basic
compound that can react with strong acids to form hydrochloric acid. Triethylamine hydrochloride is commonly used as a base catalyst in organic synthesis, e.g. for esterification, etherification, alkylation and other reactions. It is also hygroscopic and corrosive and should be handled in a well-ventilated area and avoid contact with skin and eyes.
